A Little bit of Edgar Allan Poe

Hello everyone,

Yay for Friday, hope you are all okay out there and not fighting over bargains on Black Friday! I know a certain lovely lady is currently busy buying up ALL the crafty bargains...her first name begins with an A....that's all I'm saying :)

This weeks challenge over on the Stampotique blog is use a quote from Edgar Allan Poe....there's quite a few to choose! I narrowed it down to 2,the quote I used and one about art. I was going to do a tag based on the art one but for reason I started doing a heart shape and then remembered, got confused and went with the other quote instead.....I am so all over the place when I craft :/

I rather think 'Lovelyarethesound' looks rather dashing in his Edgar Allan Poe makeover?!

I am entering this into the following challenges:

Stampotique Designers,In the words of Edgar Allan Poe,SDC175

Simon Stamp Weds,Anything Goes

Quoth the Raven ,Anything Poes

Fresco paints, pro markers, the background stamp is from Art Journey and of course the main handsome chap is Stampotique.

Have a lovely weekend everyone

Tim Holtz November 2014 Tag

Hello everyone,

Firstly and most importantly,Happy Thanksgiving to my favourite American crafters out there :)

I've shamefully missed a couple of Tim's monthly tags for some reason but as soon as I saw the leaf one I knew I just had to make one as it looked so fab. I don't have the big leaf die but I do have the tattered leaves one so I chose a leaf off that as my main focal point.

I die cut a tag from cardboard and stripped back some of the covering. I then die cut the tattered leaf from the cardboard. Next up was a tag covered in distress stains and then had distress ink dabbed through the speckles stencil and some gold flakes applied. The tag was then glued behind the cardboard tag and I applied glossy accents...left to dry...put in the freezer for a while....took out and then cracked.....very satisfying! Distress inks and Dylusions sprays were applied to the cardboard outer tag. Drew some veining in on the leaf and then applied the various bits and pieces.

I loved the idea of a Fall/Autumn tag so thought the image and the little chit chat stickers were perfect for this.

I am entering this in the following challenges:

Tim Holtz,November 2014 Tag

Simon Stamp Weds,Anything Goes

Thats Crafty,Anything Vintage

Distress stains, inks and markers,TH speckles stencil, dylusions sprays, glossy accents (put in freezer and then cracked),gold flakes,TH Occasions image and various other TH bits and pieces.

Can't wait to see what the December tag is,bet that's a stunner

Hope you like it

Tutorial - Using Fun Foam as a Stamp

Hello everyone,

Today I'm going to show you how to take a piece of cheap fun foam,a stencil and a little block of wood and turn it all into a stamp that would be ideal for background stamping. Of course, don't forget that fun foam can also be used to die cut a shape out and then use that as a stamp but I thought I'd show you that you don't have to limit yourself to just that.

Gather all your supplies together. I've used just the 2mm thick fun foam for this but any thickness will do. I suggest that you choose a stencil with a 'solid' image on so you can cut the form out in one piece rather then several little pieces, this makes stamping easier and clearer.

supplies, yes this is all you need

I picked a crafters workshop stencil for this as the images are not too intricate to cut out. I found just a plain black ballpoint pen is ideal for tracing the image onto the fun foam.
select your image,trace with pen

This is what you should have after removing the stencil, your image ready for cutting out.
nice and clear

Cut carefully around your image,as the foam is so thin it cuts really easily.
one little gingko fun foam leaf!

For mounting these foam images,I just use some glue dot pads but you can use anything that will adhere to the foam and wood...experiement and see what suits you but I find this method works well for me.
all ready for mounting

This is the back of the foam image covered in glue dot pads, nice and sticky.
ready to be stuck down on the wooden block

Any old block of wood will do....my lovely other half kindly cut some for me the other week. The beauty of this is that you can also stick a foam stamp on either side :)
ah,all ready for inking up

Now you can ink your newly created stamp up! You can use absolutely any ink you want or even paint, gesso anything! I do suggest however that whatever you use make sure its quite juicy as the foam does absorb a little bit of what you put on it.
wow,what a bright green!
Here's the finished tag. I've kept it plain for you so that you can see how clear the stamp has printed. Lovely gingko leaves!
tag all ready for more arty stuff

Lastly, I am sharing a journal page that shows some of the foam stamps I've used along with some of my mounted stamps. There are other stamps on the reverse of these wooden blocks.
journal page still to be completed.

You can of course cut any shape out and use it,doesn't have to be just from a stencil. Sometimes you might have a favourite part of a stencil that you just want to use separately. I just think this is a great idea just for filling up your backgrounds of journal pages, tags etc. Its quick,cheap,easy...whats not to like!

Hope you found this useful in some way.any questions just leave me a comment and I'll happily help.

Speed Craft Challenge No.7 - Anything Goes

Hello everyone,

Yes it's that time again folks....another Speed Craft Challenge for you all....and guess what naughty person left it to nearly the last minute to do theirs and then it was horribly dark to take the pictures.....so I deleted the ones I took last night and now you have some nice sunny pictures to look at :)

The theme is Anything Goes chosen by our lovely Keren. Please pop over here and see what my lovely teamies have created just for your inspiration. We also have a lovely new sponsor for this challenge:

so check it out! Lots of beautiful vintage images to feast your eyes upon.

Looks like its going to be a lovely mixed selection as always from my teamies.....a bit like a big box of chocolates....without the horrid coffee creams of course :)

supplies ready,timer on
all finished....and a tad over...bad Inky!
All finished and already being used
A close up of the crackled leaf

I decided to make another container for my ever growing collection of bits and pieces. I have 5 tins/pots already containing pens and brushes etc. Remember that before using any tin, after cleaning it of course, make sure you use sandpaper to take the sharpness off the rim otherwise you will cut your fingers every time you use it....which isn't much fun then is it?!

Oh I had some problems with this one! I used the double sided tape instead of the glue gun as I knew I'd just get in a mess using that,so that was fine. What caused me the trouble was the copper wire! It wouldn't bend properly to hold the metal tag in place and I hurt my fingers trying to bend the ends too! I had to stop the clock watch briefly to hunt for my rusty wire instead to do the job! I still used a bit of the copper wire at the top.....lucky you can't see around the back isn't it ha ha.

Ah yes,the leaf was one I had in my stash from a couple of weeks ago so I thought it would be ideal for this. It's the Tim Holtz tattered leaf die covered in Wendy Vecchi crackle paste and then dabbed with a host of distress stains.

Hope you like it

Strange man alert......

Hello everyone,

A big welcome to followers old and new,you know how I love you all :)

The tag I have for you today reminds me of when we were all little when our mums' used to warn us not to talk to strange men. I think he is a tiny bit misunderstood though....he loves to sparkle and shine when he is all alone.....and who could not like a man like that!!

Of course, there is only challenge for this one:

Stampotique Designers,Bling It Out SDC173

Dylusions sprays, decoart paints, promarkers,Glitzcraft glitter paste (from Ingrid),Stampotique stamp (from Amanda) and the word sparkle was cut from a sentiment from a Kaisercraft stamp.

Christmas Birdy

Hello everyone,

Thank you to all the kind souls out there who have so far put their name down for my card here. My arty director will select the winner this Friday so I can post it at the weekend :)

A tag for you today. The Craft Stamper magazine has a challenge to use non Christmas stamps in a 'Christmas' way. I don't have many Christmas stamps at all so this was a perfect challenge!
Perfect for this is Dina Wakley scribbly birds so I stamped one of them on a sheet of a Christmas themed paper pad I have and added the little red breast. The snowflakes are actually from a colour box stencil. This is a wonderful stencil with all different snowflakes on it so I chose one, traced it in pen, then cut it out on fun foam and mounted it on a little wooden block...instant stamp!

I'm sure you all know how to do this but I will do a little tutorial later in the week for any newbies out there....saves the worry of carving a stamp...much cheaper too and perfect for background stamping.

I am entering this into the following challenges:

Anything but a card,Anything Goes

Craft Stamper magazine,Use a non Christmas stamp

We Do Doobadoo,Christmas

Dylusions sprays, memento ink, colourbox snowflakes stencil, stickles, the papers are from Dovecraft and the stamp is Dina Wakley

Just for you

Hello everyone,

Hope you are all okay on this horrid dark, damp day here in the UK.

I've not been blogging long but in the short time I have been,I have had the privilege of meeting some wonderful ladies who I now call friends. I have done some wonderful arty swaps and indeed been inspired and learnt so many new techniques from lots of you.

I have noticed that a lot of us use our crafty skills as a form of relaxation, escaping from the stresses and strains of everyday living. There are a few of you that I know are going through various things at the moment so in my own little way I'd like to just say that I'm thinking of you all and hoping that things sort themselves out in the end.

So,I have a funny little card for you all today to hopefully brighten up this dull dark day.

As its so close to Christmas....well almost close.....I'm in a generous mood.....if you would like me to send you this card, please leave a comment below and say if you would like to receive it and if there's more then 1 person....or any.....that would like it,I'll get my arty director (the cat of course)to select a name.....she will be taking no bribes :) I'll leave it open for the next week so if you want a little piece of weirdness it can be yours!

Walking in a Winter Wonderland

Hello everyone,

Well its Friday again and its an absolute shocker of a day here in the UK,which has made photographing my Christmas tag a real chore. I eventually settled on the patio door as there's hardly any light at all today,so I have taken a few photos to try and give you the idea of the sparkle and shine on the tag. Oh the joys of the darker days in the Winter.......must construct that lightbox soon or else you will not see anything!

Over on lovely Loll's blog she is doing 12 days of Christmas tags so after the equally lovely Ingrid persuaded me, I have made a size 8 tag for it using some of Ingrid's die cut snowflakes too.

Ive tried my best to capture all the sparkle but its not been easy but you get the general idea....hopefully!

I am entering this into the following challenges:

Stamping with Loll,12 tags of Christmas

Speed Craft Challenge #6 Anything Goes

Hello everyone,

Wow,these fortnightly challenges come around quickly! Today's one is a nice easy one for you all, picked by our lovely Ingrid and its Anything Goes (always a favourite).
Don't forget to check the rules in the sidebar and show us how long it took you to complete your project....if it took you over 15 minutes we will judge your creation on what it looked like at the 15 minute mark. The main thing is have fun as that's what creating arty stuff is all about.

Please pop along  here to see what my fab teamies have created just for you. Don't forget we now have 4 new DT members so I'm just as curious as you to see what they have made :)

My creation for this was a sketch using just a Derwent charcoal pencil....very messy but very satisfying. I'm just highlighting you really can create a whole host of lovely things within the time limit.....think outside the arty box!

not many supplies today!
ooh just in time limit...one day I won't make it!
all completed,quite pleased

I absolutely adore drawing faces,I still have to find a medium I am completely happy with though...an excuse to try them all out!

This will be put into my journal as soon as I get my hands on some cheap hairspray to seal it

Hope you like it

Not for those of you with a nervous disposition........

Hello everyone,

Hope you are well out there and busy creating masterpieces.....if you've lost your mojo I can hire out the little furry art director for a small fee.....a bowl of fish normally secures her services :)

Well today I have the complete opposite of the door hanger I posted a couple of days ago.....the character on my tag is probably not one we'd like to spend any quality time with...although some may say it reminds them of their other half....no comment from my end of course......its getting near Christmas and I can't jeopardise whats on Santa's list.....

I am entering this into the following challenges:

The Crafters Cafe,Things with Wings

Simon Says Stamp Weds,Anything Goes

Isn't he a cutie though?! Come on,you know he reminds you of someone! Thanks to lovely Amanda for supplying me with the Stampotique character and for encouraging me to post it :)

Decoart paints, pro markers, memory box stencils,my own stamps in the background, the character is from Stampotique, the wings are from the Carabelle angel set,one sentiment is a digi from Vera lane and the other is half a sentiment chopped in half from Unity.

Hope it hasn't scared you all too much

There's always an Angel there for you

Hello everyone,

Thank you all so much for the lovely comments I received re the stamp carving tutorial. I have also included it under the new tutorials tab for easy access.
I shall have to think of some more to do won't I?! If anyone has anything in particular that they've seen on my blog and would like a little tutorial of it,just leave me a comment and I'll see if I can do it for you :)

Okay, today I have a door hanger for you....I love these things! They are made from light wood and don't cost a lot to buy but are very sturdy too. I'm thinking of making a double sided one next...watch this space.....

I am entering this into the following challenges:

Crafty Cardmakers,Cut it Out

The Crafters Cafe,Things with Wings

The Mixed Media Monthly,Stamps

Pan Pastel UK,Add some Bling

Anything but a Card,Anything Goes

Simon Stamp Weds,Anything Goes

Gesso,Fresco paints and fresco crackle glaze,Inktense pencils, glossy accents, stickles, cosmic shimmer mica flakes. The little book plate at the top was die cut from a gelli plate print off,all die cuts are Tim Holtz except the little fern ones that super duper Ingrid sent me. The stamps used are all the one set from Carabelle and they are absolutely stunning. My French is not great but I think the sentiment reads something like 'its sufficient enough to know an Angel to love'.....well its that or Google translate is rubbish!!!
